CHAPTER 26
âWhenever you guys are ready, our assistant medical examiner has your daughterâs body ready for you to see,â Michael said to the Sullivanâs. It took quite some time to get the mom to calm down. They almost had to call in an EMT, but a paper bag breathing trick did the job in getting her breathing back to normal and her ready to see her daughter or what was left of her daughter. It was a trick Michael has learned from his grandmother while growing up. His grandmother had worked in the emergency room her whole life and knew all sorts of tricks that did not always require medical attention to get someone back up to sorts. Itâs the same way he learned that a bee or wasp sting required some meat tenderizer mixed with a touch of water, and itâd take the pain right out of the sting.
âUm, yes, sir, Please take us to our daughter,â Mr. Sullivan replied. His wife was still in no condition to speak much. He knew how much this was killing her. It was killing him as well, but with her past issues, getting pregnant and finally getting the chance and then being told she wouldnât survive, Kim had pushed thru and had faith that God would take care of everything. She had wanted to be a mom her whole life. She was born to be one. Always kind and compassionate, caring and giving, always loving, never raising her voice. She had to quit her job with such a difficult pregnancy and spend so much time in and out of doctorsâ offices and hospitals. Once they had finally gotten her daughter home, they made some life changes so she could stay home with Breanne full time. She never wanted to let her out of her sight. As though she was afraid at any moment she would find her new reality a dream. She had raised their daughter to be an amazing woman. Breanne had her motherâs facial features, which automatically made her breathtakingly beautiful. She ended up being a teacher. She had also inherited her motherâs kindness and caring heart. He had a feeling that that was just the beginning of their downfall and his wifeâs downward spiral. It had been hard enough to let her move so far away only seeing her on holidays, but now knowing she would never see her miracle again, he wasnât sure what their future would hold.
âRight this way to the elevator. Our morgue is on the bottom floor. Alex, the medical examiner took great care of her, and he has her prepared so you wonât have to see the state that she was in when she passed away,â Michael finished. He was not sure if he should have added that last part. He was usually good at handling the grievers. He grew up with a single mom and two sisters. He knew how to handle emotions but in this situation, a murder so gruesome, he just could not seem to find or say the right words to comfort these parents.
